The Department of Medicine is excited to share the results of the 2026 National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Match, which were made public on Friday, March 20, during the highly anticipated Match Day celebrations.
The Internal Medicine Residency Program will have 51 incoming interns, including seven American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)/Physician Scientist Training Program residents, from 37 different medical schools and seven countries. In collaboration with the departments of Pediatrics, Neurology and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), the department recruited six Medicine-Pediatrics residents, eight Neurology residents and four PM&R residents.
“We had a spectacular Match today!” said John McPherson, MD, Department of Medicine Vice Chair for Education and professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. “Thanks to everyone who participated in our recruiting process; we are grateful for all of you.”

The Vanderbilt Wilson County Primary Care–Internal Medicine Residency Program announced its first class of residents on Friday, March 20.
“We are excited to welcome these eight residents to Wilson County and Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital! They will both care for and learn from the community while growing into the next generation of primary care physicians" said Missy Scalise, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine and Program Director. "This moment is also a celebration of the many people who worked tirelessly to make this program possible - leadership, faculty, and administrative staff - who believe in training physicians where they are needed most," she said.
“While today is a milestone, it is truly just the beginning. We recognize the responsibility we have to both the community and our residents to provide exceptional training and compassionate, high-quality care, and we look forward to the future of the program."
